To provide women with the information and help they need so they can be safe, healthy, educated, fairly treated under the law, good parents & successful financial managers in their homes, work, farms & small businesses.
OUR GOALS
To support women & girls in their search for well being in all aspects of their lives.
To offer counseling & life skills workshops for women & girls.
To advocate on behalf of women & girls by working together with other community groups who share similar values & goals.
OUR SERVICES
In order to fulfill our mission we offer a range of services including:
MOTHER'S SUPPORT PROGRAMME
We teach and guide women within their communities in small groups of fifteen members
- Nutrition: kitchen gardens / farm animals
- Reproductive health / pre- and post -natal care/ safe delivery
- Family planning
- Family Relations
- Money management/ table banking/ entrepreneurship
- Essential role of women in society / Women’s rights
- Community organization and group support
LIFE SKILLS IN SCHOOLS
In local schools we teach both girls and boys about:
- The essential role of women in society
- Reproductive health and safety: HIV and AIDS
- Education system / setting goals
- Communication skills
- Family and peer relations / gender based violence
- Hygiene and Nutrition
- Alcohol, drugs and addiction
- Ecological farming techniques: school garden projects
SUPPORTING GIRLS IN SCHOOL
A scholarship fund has been established which allows for financial support for poor girls to be able to attend school.
PERSONAL GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING
Personal counselling is offered in our office and in the community. We assist with many issues including:
- Financial problems
- Health problems / mental health
- Family planning
- Family relations and parenting
- Entrepreneurship
- Education and career planning
- Micro-loans small business startup
- Land Loss/ abuse from spouse, in-laws and relatives
We refer to medical, social, financial and legal services within the community.
We are very proactive in terms of outreach into the community by visiting schools, churches and other community based organizations to give life skills, career and financial management workshops.
Our Board of Directors are excellent community networkers on behalf of The Visionary Women's Centre.
By listening with an open heart and giving appropriate teaching and referrals we provide the tools needed to begin to rise above the poverty and trauma that is a daily reality for many of the women and girls in Kenya.
